The Australian Broadcasting Corporation is looking for a motivated, self-starting co-ordinating producer, with a strong interest in national and international news, excellent news judgement, and proven television and radio production skills. The position is based in the ABC’s North America bureau in Washington, DC.

Selection requirements:

1.A minimum of three years’ television news production experience.
2.Proven ability to generate story ideas for news and current affairs programs.
3.Excellent news and editorial judgement.
4.A strong interest in and knowledge of domestic and international issues.
5.Excellent organisational and administrative skills.
6.An extensive database of contacts or the ability to build networks quickly.
7.Ability and willingness to work long and irregular hours.


Co-ordinate overall production within the Washington bureau.
Manage crew rosters.
Generate, produce and research original story ideas and contribute to story development.
Liaise between the bureau and the foreign desk on story ideas and scheduling.
Co-ordinate and schedule television crews for US, Canada and the Americas.
Book studios and dynamic talent as required by correspondents and programs.
Book satellites and fibre and feed television stories.
Co-ordinate simsats between talent and programs.
Arrange and conduct interviews as required.
Research and obtain stock footage as required by correspondents and programs.
Provide weekly futures to Washington bureau and International Editor.
Book travel and make other arrangements for bureau correspondents and crew.
Keep assignment board up to date and crews informed of assignments.
Schedule regular editorial meetings for staff on travel and coming events in liaison with the Bureau Chief.
Provide weekend staffing lists to International Assignments Editor.
Ensure all television feeds are recorded.
Record radio feeds and edit audio when required.
Manage a central contacts database.

Package Details:

All federal holidays plus the day after Thanksgiving, 99% employer-funded health and dental insurance. Eligibility after one year for enrolment in the ABC's 401k retirement plan that includes an eight percent employer contribution not requiring an employee match. Three weeks annual leave. Salary commensurate with experience.
