Royalties/General Ledger Accounting Coordinator

We are looking to hire a part-time accounting professional, preferably with an interest in book publishing, for 8-12 hours per week, with an additional 2-3 eight-hour days twice a year. This job would combine coordination and handling of our royalties, permissions, subrights and general ledger accounting.


1. Management of royalty records including posting income receipts, payments and general file maintenance.
2. Compiling and generating statements and payment checks bi-annually, based on all income and charges over a six-month period (this task normally requires 2-3 consecutive full days to complete).
3. Mailing all payee statements and checks.
4. Working with our Financial Officer to coordinate all accounts.
5. Responding to any royalties inquiries throughout the year, regarding accounts, and providing copies of statements as requested.
6. Tracking payee estate information and logging any changes.

1. Handling accounts receivables for subrights income.

1. Handling accounts receivables for permissions income
2. Assisting in generating appropriate fee structures for non-standard permissions requests.

General Ledger:
1. Management of three Boston bank accounts including receipts, deposits and reconcilations.
2. Reporting balances of these accounts, at regular intervals, to our Financial Officer.
3. Managing tax reporting throughout the year as well as 1099 statements and year end tax reconciliations.

Any general IT knowledge and network troubleshooting experience is a plus.
