GENERAL DUTIES

  • Writes and prepares written material on College issues and event and provides professional support to College communications programs.
  • Researches and writes items in a variety of formats for publication in print, web sites, and presentations
  • Participates in planning communications projects and contributes to decisions on content and style
  • May assume editorial responsibility for communications projects; reviews and edits the work of others
  • May coordinate production of written materials
  • Adheres to journalistic standards for fact-finding, research, verification, and style
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Communications and Marketing, the Publications Writer-Editor will provide direct support to the Office of Communications and Marketing. The successful candidate must be well-organized and detail-oriented, and is expected to handle a variety of departmental functions, including:

  • Identifying potential news and feature stories of interest to print and online media
  • Assisting the Assistant Vice President for Communications and Marketing with preparing news and feature press releases and following up on news outlets
  • Assisting with writing speeches, opinion editorials, and letters to the editor
  • Assisting with providing content/editing for the campus website, campus publications and marketing materials
  • Monitoring the College Facebook and other social media sites


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree and four years' related experience required.



OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Proficient in writing and preparing web content/social media Excellent proofreading/editing skills and experience in preparing press releases Strong background in journalism, public relations and/or marketing



COMPENSATION

$42,873 - $74,133 - Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
