JOB OBJECTIVE:

As PBS extends its reach beyond traditional media to new platforms, the Digital Video Content Manager is responsible for the editorial oversight and content strategy of national and local video across PBS Interactive’s current and emerging distribution platforms, including desktop, mobile, over-the-top devices, and social media outreach

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

•Develop distribution, promotion, and marketing strategies for video content on digital platforms
•Program and curate video experiences across all platforms
•Produce stunts and themed packages of content to drive new traffic, increase engagement, and increase video streams
•Write promotional copy for content; emphasizing click-through and audience engagement
•Provide thought leadership around the product development of video experiences on current and future platforms
•Develop and maintain strong working relationships with producers, stations, and internal stakeholders regarding content promotions across all platforms
•Analyze metrics to make data-based programming decisions
•Support new content partnerships
•Manage staff and contractors to support departmental projects

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

•At least five years of experience in online video and publishing
•Strong experience and expertise in writing and editing content for the Web; including promotional copy
•Experience hand-coding HTML
•Experience in the creation or maintenance of Web sites (either by hand or through commonly-available applications or templates) and/or publishing to blogs is preferred
•Experience or familiarity with Flash, RSS feeds, podcast and vodcast creation
•Experience or interest in Web 2.0 practices, social media tools, community services, social networking, wikis, and shareable widgets

MINIMUM EDUCATION/TRAINING REQUIRED:

•Bachelor’s degree in journalism, film, communications, or related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience

OTHER SKILLS/ABILITIES REQUIRED:

•Understanding of web publishing principles, including SEO, metadata, project management, etc.
•Solid editorial judgment and content analysis skills
•Interest in and comfort with online video
•Familiarity with ‘thePlatform’ or other CMS platforms
•Exceptional communication skills
•Ability to develop plans, capture and analyze data, summarize findings and implement initiatives
•Ability to work independently and flexibly in a collaborative and creative environment
•Ability to work quickly under pressure in a fast-paced and rapidly-changing environment
•Attention to detail and pride in high-quality execution of work
•Enthusiastic and energetic team player who is excited about the possibilities afforded by new technologies
•Ability to work collaboratively and diplomatically with others
