Position Profile

Work closely with marketing to identify and win adoptions and recommended reading for Bloomsbury’s academic titles (excluding visual arts). Use a mix of telesales, academic conferences, personal visits, and email marketing to close business with a focus on the US market while maintaining productive relationships with faculty. As necessary, work either directly or with other sales teams to fulfill adoptions/recommendations through college bookstores and wholesalers. Communicate closely with editorial teams to deliver market intelligence and identify publishing opportunities.

Primary Responsibilities

-Develop and implement strategic sales plans and forecasts to achieve objectives for products and services in the Americas for academic titles.
-In close communication with list marketers, set promotional strategies to drive adoption and purchase of key titles, including print and eBook.
-Develop and manage sales expense budgets for area of responsibility.
-Collaborate with sales, sales operations, editorial, marketing, international sales based in the UK, and other key business functions across the academic lists and across Bloomsbury as required.
-In cooperation with marketing and editorial, recommend product positioning, packaging, and pricing strategy to produce the highest possible long-term market share.
-Achieve satisfactory profit/loss ratio and market share in relation to preset standards and industry and economic trends.
-Monitor competitor products and sales activities.
-Establish and maintain relationships with industry influencers and key strategic partners.
-Meet with academics and bookstore staff as necessary to grow and maintain commercial relationships; negotiate and close deals.
-Prepare and/or develop required sales reports showing sales volume, potential sales, and areas of growth.

Selection Criteria
The successful candidate will have Bachelors Degree in Sales, Marketing, Business, or related fields preferred with a minimum of three years of related experience with key accounts—ideally in academic markets.
