Job Description

The Director of Marketing will lead a scrappy, fast-paced marketing team tasked with both defining and communicating National Journal Group’s brand, as well as developing and executing highly customized, differentiated and market-leading multi-platform programs for advertisers. The position combines strong strategic planning and visionary brand development with core big idea/platform creation and best-in-class program execution. The ideal candidate will be a whip-smart, strategic, and highly creative thinker with great aesthetic judgment and a strong analytic mind, who is also willing to roll up his/her sleeves and get dirty. The position will report to the SVP of Advertising and President of National Journal.

Responsibilities Include:
•Develop short and long term strategic marketing plans that drive National Journal’s business forward and demonstrate its leadership in the beltway influential category
•Oversee development of brand message and market-leading communication tools
•Oversee and develop innovative, best-in-class ideas for current and prospective advertisers that could include print, online, social media, mobile, app, and emerging media elements that leverage editorial, custom content and external partnership opportunities
•Inspire the sales team and current and potential clients through presentation of existing marketing programs and customized concepts at client meetings and on calls with the sales staff
•Oversee the analysis and packaging of research data to support and augment advertising sales, document print and digital advertising effectiveness and provide strategic marketing research insights
•Conceive and execute branding events in Washington, DC and outer markets
•Oversee and manage National Journal’s marketing budget

Qualifications of the Ideal Candidate:

•Vision, determination, and the charisma to inspire
•Knowledge of and passion for digital media space
•Working knowledge of design programs and ability to create materials
•Exceptional writing skills coupled with a creative, out-of-the-box mind
•Experienced in management and have the ability to lead and motivate
•Strong analytics and strategic thinking; ability to understand and use relevant research data about our enterprise and audience
•Experience generating and executing multi-platform, integrated programs
•Outstanding social intelligence with the ability to successfully interact with high-level executives, both within and outside of National Journal Group
•6+ years of related experience (digital experience a must/social experience preferred)
•Exceptional business intuition, real-time judgment with maturity, poise and “grace under pressure”
•Outstanding record of achievement
•Bachelor’s degree
