As the largest U.S. publisher of magazines worldwide, Hearst Magazines International (HMI), a unit of Hearst Corporation, publishes more than 300 editions for distribution in more than 100 countries. Major titles include powerful brand equities like Cosmopolitan and ELLE, both international super-brands with more editions than any other women’s magazines in the world; ELLE DÉCOR, Esquire, Good Housekeeping, Harper's BAZAAR, Popular Mechanics, and Seventeen. In addition, Hearst Magazines International publishes other titles through joint ventures, including Men’s Health and Runner’s World in the U.K., Grazia and Madison in Australia, and The Robb Report in Russia and China. In Great Britain, a wholly-owned subsidiary, Hearst Magazines UK, publishes 22 magazines and 21 digital assets. Hearst Magazines publishes 20 titles in the U.S.
The Position: Director, Digital Ad Sales, Totally Global Media
TGM is seeking a Director, Digital Ad Sales candidate with an entrepreneurial spirit who will be responsible for ad sales strategy and revenue generation and who will take a leadership role for driving digital ad revenue growth across TGM’s 100 million unique visitors per month. This position will partner with clients and agencies looking for multi-country sponsorship opportunities whom are based in the US.
Ideal candidate must be well-versed in building a new sales division, have demonstrated an exceptional track record of generating advertising sales combined with a superior understanding of online strategy, digital best practices and methodologies.
He/she will help leverage marketing, qualitative and quantitative information to successfully formulate online ad sales solutions for U.S. based multinational brands to enhance their global presence.
He/she will lead the online ad sales strategy and collaborate with SVP and marketing to develop marketing programs and strategic plans that translate into sales. Expectations are that this sales leader will strive to exceed revenue targets through creative consultative selling.
In addition, ideal candidate will be a proven and accomplished sales professional with strong client relationships and industry partnerships that leads to positive results in revenue. The ideal candidate should have a strong command of written and verbal communication, be a deal maker, and have a proven track record of success in online ad sales.
Traveling to attend industry trade shows and events to meet with clients and develop contacts is expected.
Position reports to Gina Garrubbo, SVP, Hearst Global Women’s Digital Advertising Network.
Key Responsibilities:

Manage and grow existing global client base.
Attain established revenue goals through innovative, creative and strategic selling.
Collaborate with multiple stakeholders to create effective global client solutions and manage deal development.
Develop new business through contacts and prospecting.
Handle all phases of the selling cycle through to close and regularly report accurate revenue projections.
Work with SVP Gina Garrubbo, and Marketing Manager/Director to create marketing programs and monitor overall strategy to drive advertising and revenue objectives.


Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience in digital media sales.
Must be well-versed in building a new ad sales division.
Demonstrated success crafting interactive brand strategies resulting in robust digital ad sales for an online destination(s).
Proven track record translating marketing and promotional objectives into results for advertisers.
Track record of structuring and managing complex negotiations to successful closure.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced start-up environment with grace under pressure.
A self-starter who instinctively takes charge, has a positive ‘team player’ approach, and is comfortable in a dynamic and rapidly evolving environment.
Analytical/strategic thinker, creative problem solver, roll-up sleeves resourceful, able to effect innovation and creativity.
An individual who works well within a corporate and creative environment.
Deep rolodex of industry contacts and positive relationships with ad agencies/marketing executives at the client level. Prefer a candidate with global experience and contacts.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
Experience with a start-up or launch is ideal.
BA/BS or equivalent experience.
