Job Overview: The Communications Specialist is responsible for the planning and implementation of marketing and communications for the Pennoni Honors College, increasing the visibility of and raising awareness about the college and its departments/programs. Reporting directly to the dean, he or she will play a leadership role in developing a communications strategy through print materials, online tools and social media. Specifically, the Communications Specialist will set and guide the strategy for all internal and external communications, websites, and public relations messaging to consistently articulate the college's / department's mission, and will work closely with the Dean and Directors on a variety of strategic initiatives. The winning candidate will demonstrate a proven ability to develop smart messaging strategies and content in collaboration with other team members within a short turnaround time.Qualifications: - At least 2 years of demonstrated experience in an organizational communications setting, with hands-on experience in public relations, communication strategy, marketing and/or nonprofit management. - A hard-working, self-starter with a proven track record of creative marketing and promotion.- Experience using social media, online tools, and/or mobile technology to promote organizational goals and mission.- Experience managing complex and numerous projects concurrently. - Ability to be focused and detailed, meet deadlines and juggle multiple tasks, and work as part of a team, while maintaining the big picture and a sense of humor.- Strong verbal and persuasive presentation skills.- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, English, Journalism, Marketing or related area.- Experience at a university or non-profit institution is a plus.- Graphic design and/or web video editing and posting skills also a plus.Essential Functions: - Manage the websites for the Pennoni Honors College and its departments.- Coordinate development, distribution, and quality control of mass communications for the Pennoni Honors College and its departments, including e-newsletters, websites, social media, press releases, and print materials.
