Associate Director/Director of Content
Responsibilities:•Ensure the development and refinement of the Academy of American Poets on- and offline content in close cooperation with Executive Director•Improve and enforce standards for editorial and programmatic content excellence across all platforms •Ensure that all print and online content is up-to-date and of top quality, and produced and maintained in accordance with agreed upon schedules and deadlines•Ensure that editorial and programmatic content serves the Academy’s key audiences: readers of poetry, educators, poets, and the organization’s members•Oversee, at a high level, all editing, production, and design across all platforms •Write / edit and assign articles and special content, as needed•Own and manage the implementation of content strategy for Poets.org, producing a highly trafficked site •Oversee the testing and roll out of new online features and functions•Ensure tone, voice, look and feel of all communications is consistent with the Academy brand across all platforms•Drive social media strategy and implementation•Ensure a metrics-driven culture, with regular review of online analytics•Clearly articulate content goals, strategies and tactics to stakeholders, including Academy Board members and key outside constituencies•Manage internal content and social media staff, and be responsible for their hiring, training and professional development •Determine optimal methods for cross-platform work, maximizing synergy between print, digital, and live events •Stay abreast of emerging technology as it relates to digital publishing and distributionQualifications and Experience:•10+ years of professional experience with at least 5 years at senior management level and managing teams•Proven track record of success in managing the delivery of on- and offline editorial publications and products•Excellent team leadership skills and demonstrated ability to manage creative talent in a cross-platform environment•High level of creativity in approach to content•Committed to innovation-- oriented toward exploiting digital platforms and products as fully as possible•Experienced at long-form content •Experience with print and digital magazine design and production•Strong web foundation including, UI, UX, and web content best practices•Strong packaging skills and visual/graphic sensibility•Impeccable communication skills, written and oral•Excellent interpersonal skills, a collaborative style, and a sense of humor•Able to succeed in a nonprofit organization with multiple constituencies•Confidence and presence to effectively craft and deliver presentations for discussion in Board meetings•Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism or related field. MFA in Poetry, preferred. •A passion for poetryHands-on experience with:•Open Source Content Management Systems•Executing website redesigns, including managing contract developers on such projects•Google Analytics•Social media•HTML•SEO / SEMPlease include salary requirements.
