AOL Weekend Editor
AOL Media Group is looking for a full-time, enthusiastic, self-motivated team player to join our weekend team. A successful candidate will be able to work with channel editors, write headlines, optimize web traffic, promote AOL/Huffington Post content across social media platforms and grow the already well-established community.The editor will be dedicated to owning weekends for AOL.com. You should have a fairly diverse and demonstrable range of interests in current events, have experience working in a fast-paced, online news environment and be fluent in current events in several subject areas. You will work alongside our existing weekend editor and will help to drive our coverage across a wide scope of events. You will also be responsible for monitoring the live screen to ensure scheduled promotions show up when and where they are supposed to. Your chief responsibility will be to turn weekends on aol.com into a fun, dynamic, must-visit destination.Ideal candidates should meet the following criteria:- Be knowledgeable about an array of subjects - Thrive in a fast-paced environment and be able to respond to news as it happens - Be able to spot a hot-button story or a viral video from a mile away - Have superior news judgment and writing skills and be able to condense large amounts of information into engaging and intriguing promos. Be able to identify the best photo to accompany a story - Have excellent organizational skills, be meticulous about details and be able to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously without feeling overwhelmed - TWO to FOUR years of work experience needed! (including some in an online setting)- Knowledge of CMS, Photoshop and basic HTML is a plus- Must be willing to work weekends as needed.This is a full-time position with benefits. It’s a 4-day work week (Thursday through Sunday) with hours as follows:Thursday and Friday 9am to 3pmSaturday and Sunday either 8am to 6pm OR 5pm to 1am.You’ll be off Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.WE PREFER LOCAL CANDIDATES WITHIN THE TRI-STATE AREA.
