Rodale is currently seeking a Features Editor for Runner’s World magazine. The Features Editor will be responsible for conceiving, planning, assigning and editing one or more feature stories each month on a variety of topics of interest to runners. The work will include everything from long-form narratives to short, inventive pieces, including but not limited to profiles of elite athletes and compelling characters, human-interest dramas, colorful scenes, important races, and historic and current events. The work will be primarily for the print publication but will include responsibilities for tablet editions and other digital platforms as well. A strong interest in sports and running is required, as are a robust Rolodex and proven experience editing top feature writers and identifying emerging talent. This position is located in Emmaus, Pennsylvania.
Responsibilities include:
-Scouring the world of running for fresh story ideas
-Identifying and pitching great ideas and assigning them to quality writers
-Editing and preparing feature stories for publication
-Working closely with fact-checking and copy editing departments
-Collaborating closely with photo and design departments
-Working with digital team to enhance features in electronic media
-Contributing general ideas to the magazine
Candidates must possess:
-College degree
-Minimum of 6 to 10 years of assigning and editing features for a top magazine
-Demonstrated skill in developing and publishing quality narrative journalism
-Demonstrable, passionate interest in the world of running
-Excellent reputation in the writing community
-Ability to produce superior work ahead of time and on budget
