We are looking for someone to manage the filing of copyright claims for published works and to handle various permissions requests for text and images.

Responsibilities include:
Managing copyrights with the Library of Congress, including: filing copyright claims, researching and troubleshooting claims issues, maintaining database records, completing mandatory deposits, and filing copyright forms.

Responding to permission requests in a timely manner, including completing agreements, negotiating fees, and handling invoices for text reprints, image reprints, set dressing/ prop requests for films, and licensing and subsidiary rights.

Working with a permissions clearing house to ensure that the publisher’s listings are kept up to date and royalty payments are reported and received.

Handling correspondence and other communications related to permissions and copyrights requests and providing support for editorial staff for related issues.

Documenting best practices and policies and procedures related to copyrights and permissions for book publishers, and relay these to the editorial department.

Assisting editorial department in obtaining image and likeness rights.

Assisting publicity department by managing and fulfilling inquiries from media outside the U.S. in countries where we do not have press offices.

A bachelor’s degree is required, along with a minimum of three years’ experience related to copyrights and permissions in book publishing. The ideal candidate has knowledge of the basic concepts of copyright, permissions, and contracts. Must have excellent written and oral communication skills, be extremely detail oriented and organized, and able to efficiently handle and prioritize multiple tasks in a deadline-oriented environment.
