Position #: 13002 POSITION OVERVIEW: Bloomberg BNA, a wholly owned subsidiary of Bloomberg, and a leading source of legal, regulatory, and business information for professionals, seeks a Copywriter to conceptualize, write, edit, and proof copy for a variety of print, web, and email marketing communication vehicles geared towards generating new sales and renewing inactive accounts. The Copywriter coordinates the creation of collateral with both internal colleagues and external vendors, including designers, while supporting the book division’s overall objectives. RESPONSIBILITIES: Collaborate with Marketing Manager and graphic designer(s) to generate options that fulfill the strategic and business objectives for each project, including sales/marketing collateral, press releases, promotional emails, advertisements, direct response brochures, past buyer correspondence, exhibition order forms and flyers, and other material; coordinate with internal and external authors to obtain information about new editions and supplements; write compelling web and email copy; create and send weekly email promotions to customers and prospects to promote publications; update website, including special landing pages and web-based marketing campaigns; create tracking codes for emails, web, and press releases and request tracking reports; gather, research, and analyze complex legal information to determine appropriate and effective selling presentations for treatises; work with outside agency and graphic designers to plan and create layouts, formats, design elements, and graphics for marketing materials; review proofs for requested changes and accuracy; attend and participate in meetings with Marketing Manager, staff, and authors to discuss the feasibility of proposed ideas and assess the effectiveness of work; respond to project requests in a timely fashion to meet deadlines; maintain branding specifications on all work; serve as backup to Marketing Communications Specialist/Production Coordinator to coordinate internal and external print marketing materials between outside agency and printers, conduct list research and order lists, and shepherd projects through production process; participate in special projects; and perform other duties as assigned. REQUIREMENTS: 3+ years’ of progressively responsible experience in promotional/advertising copywriting; proven ability to coordinate and traffic production of direct and email marketing projects; experience in commercial design/layout using design software a plus; solid understanding of the principles of promotional communications and direct response marketing; direct mail and email marketing experience preferred, especially list research; strong persuasive writing skills, including the ability to create compelling copy that meets the strategic and conceptual objectives (selected candidates will be asked to provide samples of previous work); demonstrated ability to edit and accurately proof copy; demonstrated ability to perform independent, proactive research and analysis to gather preliminary information for promotions/projects; general knowledge of the technical aspects of design, including the printing process, digital production, and pre-press requirements; self started with the ability to work independently and on a team; excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate with persons on all levels both inside and outside Bloomberg BNA; ability to think conceptually; excellent organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize assignments, produce high-quality work, and meet deadlines; strong attention to detail and ability to multitask; familiarity with legal terminology and legal information sources; knowledge of basic graphic art presentation and ability to use design software a plus; and proficiency in MS Office. Bachelor’s in communications, journalism, English, or the liberal arts. Training in commercial art desired. Experience with legal books a plus. Candidates are required to pass a test for this position.
