Full Time
The Office of Communications seeks a front-end web developer to serve as lead developer and systems administrator for CBO’s public website and as the site collection administrator for its Intranet.

Through its three-person web team, the Office of Communications supports CBO’s mission by developing, executing, and managing successful online strategies. The web developer will provide technical expertise for the online communications team, including the skills to ensure seamless day-to-day operations and the knowledge to assist in developing tactical and strategic improvements to CBO’s web presence. This is a mid-level position requiring an individual who can shift seamlessly between producing well-documented code, upgrading Apache, writing valid CSS3, and designing user interfaces.

The web developer will:
•Maintain CBO’s content management systems and their underlying infrastructure (namely, its webservers and databases.)
•Develop new functionality for CBO’s websites, including modifying existing code bases, adding or configuring new modules for CBO’s content management system, or creating custom modules or applications, as needed.
•Monitor CBO’s cloud-hosted servers and conduct regular reviews to ensure that CBO is receiving maximum benefit from its external infrastructure.
•Manage relationships with external contractors, serving as day-to-day point of contact.
•Serve as CBO’s technical expert for a review of the agency’s website, infrastructure, and content management systems, and assist in the creation of short-, medium-, and long-term strategies for maintenance and upgrades.
•Provide technical expertise for developing policies and work plans for maintaining and improving CBO’s public website.

Applicants should:
•Have a minimum of 5 years of experience maintaining websites, including at least 3 years of experience working with Drupal and 3 years working in a LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) environment. Some experience with SharePoint is preferred but not required.
•Have experience maintaining an array of servers, including self- and cloud-hosted. Experience working with managed cloud hosting is strongly preferred.
•Possess impeccable CSS, HTML, and JavaScript skills, including CSS3 and HTML5 and basic familiarity with the jQuery library. Candidates should also have a solid understanding of responsive design and a commitment to ensuring that cutting-edge web apps degrade gracefully in older browsers (IE7+).
•Be experienced maintaining open source web platforms. CBO is a Drupal shop and utilizes open source solutions whenever practical.
•Be experienced using and maintaining a central repository (for example, Git, SVN, or Mercurial) for managing and documenting CBO’s code base.
•Experience developing user interfaces for text-heavy publishing sites and an active interest in the future of online publishing is desirable, but not required.
•Be comfortable managing a diverse technology platform, including some legacy applications.
•Enjoy the challenge of working with professionals who may have limited technology experience. The ideal candidate will understand how to give clients what they want and not just what they ask for, and possess the tact to explain why those are sometimes different; will enthusiastically support the open source community (personal contributions to open source projects are especially valued); and will have a passion for creating a great user experience for both end users and content creators.

Salary and Benefits
Salary is competitive with positions in the executive branch and will be commensurate with experience, education, and other qualifications. CBO offers excellent benefits and an appealing work environment.
