JLG editorial assistants must have a good critical eye, be able to articulate ideas both in written evaluations and group discussions, work through a high volume of material under deadline pressure, and be willing to take on various duties in our small department. The major responsibilities of the job are assisting the Editorial Director; administrative tasks including logging in and tracking submissions; reading and evaluating children’s and young adult book manuscripts; and writing descriptions for our catalogs and Web site. A Bachelor of Arts is required. Knowledge of proofreading and copyediting marks is a plus, as are familiarity with children, children’s and young adult books, and the library market.
