Summary:

Under the supervision of the Senior Editor, the Copy Editor will ensure the editorial content of the Institute’s print and electronic publications conveys both accurate and engaging messages to external audiences and that it meets the strategic communications goals of the Institute.

Position duties:
Copyedit, fact check, proofread, and write articles for the Institute’s website, alumni magazine, annual bulletins (course catalogs) for the Institutional Advancement division. Additionally, edit and write copy for postcards, invitations, booklets, programs, posters, and fliers for Pratt’s various departments.

Produce clear, concise, and well-written promotional copy for print and electronic publications.

Work closely with the Creative Director and Production Manager to ensure that the editorial needs for each project are met in time to adhere to production schedules.

Meet with clients to determine copy needs and to make sure messages are appropriate and clearly communicated in the text of each piece.

Work with Senior Editor to update and expand Pratt’s Style Guide.

Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications, or related field required.

Experience: A minimum of three to five years of experience as an editor and writer of print and online publications.

Skills: Experience producing copy for both print and electronic publications and demonstrated knowledge of the distinction between editorial standards for each. Familiarity with both Chicago Manual and AP Style Guides. Experience in establishing editorial standards within an organization. Knowledge of fine art, design, and photography preferred.

Other: Sophisticated verbal and written communications skills and the ability to interact professionally with a team. Impeccable grammar and spelling skills. Ability to manage long-term projects, to handle multiple projects simultaneously, and to think strategically and creatively.
