Position Summary

The Vice President, Digital leads Teach For America's digital initiatives, including websites, blogs, social media, email marketing, mobile apps and video. The Digital team works to create a high impact and cohesive Teach For America experience in the digital space and beyond, with a particular focus on using digital media to change mindsets and strengthen the movement for educational equity. The VP provides visionary leadership to a 30-person team of digital specialists, shapes team culture and professional development and serves as a lead advocate for the role of digital in realizing Teach For America's vision of One Day.

The Vice President, Digital reports to the Chief Marketing Communications Officer and serves as a member of the Marketing Communications Leadership Team.

Team Overview Our job is to share Teach For America's soul. We inspire people to get involved by sharing stories of teachers, students, and communities dedicated to expanding educational opportunity. Our insights, creative, and digital teams find the best mediums to tell these stories; our communications team works with the media to increase awareness and understanding of the problem and our solution to it; and our account team partners with the rest of the organization to create marketing strategies and solutions. We keep our creative muscles flexed at karaoke nights, improv classes, and museums visits; and when apart, hone our virtual skills and stay in touch with videos, blogs, and social media. Responsibilities:

* Vision-setting and thought leadership

* Lead development of team vision and partner with direct reports to develop and execute the strategy for achieving it

* Bring in new knowledge about developments in the digital space to inform TFA's plans and priorities

* Establish measures of success for the team overall and individual strategies and programs, and develop and manage systems for tracking progress and acting on results

* Team leadership

* Develop and sustain a team culture centered on innovation, risk-taking and long-term impact

* Work closely with sub-team leads to define scope of major initiatives, identify resources to take them on, address and overcome challenges, and ensure each initiative's ultimate success

* Invest in the professional development of individual team members, including by creating and supporting internal learning opportunities as well as leveraging external resources to support individual and team growth

* Provide individual mentorship and coaching to help sub-team leads and other Digital team members exercise leadership in their roles in pursuit of transformational change

* Advocacy

* Serve as the organization's main evangelist for the power of digital as a lever to accelerate TFA's pursuit of One Day

* Help senior leaders in the organization, within and beyond M C, infuse digital into all communications and marketing efforts

* Partner with the organization's Chief Information Officer to ensure Digital and IT efforts are aligned for maximum efficiency and impact

Education and Experience

* Bachelor's degree required

* 12 years experience leading and managing digital initiatives, ideally at an enterprise-level, with demonstrated impact on an organization's major strategic goals (e.g., increase in membership, donations, revenues, brand awareness and/or advocacy)

* Recent (i.e., past 1-2 years) experience leading large-scale digital initiatives, such as website (re-) development, from inception through completion

* Experience using digital media as a platform for advocating and mobilizing others (ideally, in pursuit of an social justice cause)

* Experience developing compelling stories in a range of media, including video and social media

* Experience managing a large, diverse and multi-functional team

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

* Passion for digital media and its ability to fuel movements for transformational change

* Exceptional writing, editing, and communication skills

* Ability to lead team execution with a strong sense of possibility in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment

* Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and independently

* High sense of urgency with ability to drive results

* Exceptional coaching, mentorship and relationship-building skills

* Familiarity with with HTML/CSS, Javascript and JQuery; Photoshop and Illustrator; and content management systems including Drupal and WordPress

* 25-50% (if not based in NYC)


Salary for this position is competitive and depends on prior experience. In addition, a comprehensive benefits package is included.
