Ms. Wendy Liem
Full Time

The U.S. energy team is seeking a versatile, aggressive reporter to cover the rapidly evolving U.S. crude oil market, combining deep expertise and strong sourcing with a keen eye for longer-form investigative work and agenda-setting enterprise pieces. Dramatic changes across the world's biggest oil market have had massive implications for the U.S. economic and political landscape over the past two years, capturing front page headlines as high fuel prices shape the presidential debate, shale oil production restructures the economy, and changing trade flows and environmental rules redefine the U.S. oil patch.

At its core, the job involves breaking news in the domestic cash crude market, which has been transformed from a stable, import-dependent seaborne market to a constantly evolving network of pipelines, trains, trucks and barges - with every trader scrambling for an edge. The role also requires switching easily and often between serving a core audience of savvy oil market professionals to writing compelling long-form copy that can hold the interest of a wider financial readership, covering everything from scoops on pipeline deals, oil platform maintenance and railway contracts to deeper pieces on changing flows, trading strategies and big personalities. This is an opportunity for an ambitious reporter eager to shine across many aspects of the Reuters news file, one who has the patience to dig, the speed to move markets, and the polished writing to make it all shine.
