The Director of Business Development is responsible for the growth of commercial business operations, including advertising sales (both print and digital), sponsorship support, new venture funding, strategic commercial partnerships, and strategic planning for commercial growth.?

S/he plays an important role in enterprise-level planning and execution of strategy by coordinating across commercial channels (individuals, institutions, and industry)

Responsibilities include:

Identify and pursue viable new business and revenue opportunities in all channels

Direct activities of advertising sales and business development staff

Maintain a bottom-line orientation within the organization and per activity

Create commercial strategic plans as needed per market, per segment, or per initiative, as well as overall

Work proactively with the CEO/Publisher and other senior management to develop lines of business and make relevant decisions

Provide leadership and a point of collaboration for staff and outside parties around company's business development initiatives

Develop, review, and implement business plans as required

Work with the CFO, product line managers, and others to ensure overall business development goals are being met

Provide input into product development and extension activities to maximize business development opportunities

Management of licensing relationships

Requires:

Bachelor's Degree plus 5 to 10 years of management experience in a commercial/advertising or business development role in professional publishing. Medical publications preferred.

Familiarity with financial, business development, product development, and related management tasks.

Knowledge of international markets and customs.

Experience managing staff.
