DESCRIPTION:
The Editor – Business of bbc.com will be someone who is passionate about personal business topics such as career planning, financial habits, leadership and corporate responsibility. They will be responsible for delivering content for a new feature section on bbc.com.

The Editor – Business will collaborate with Deputy Editors, authors and product managers to deliver a successful online product for consumers, advertisers, and potential content partners. The Editor – Business will report to the Managing Editor, Feature sections but will also work closely with other features editors and stakeholders at Global News Ltd. The Editor will assume responsibility for the site and for the management of a small team of editorial staff. The position is a full-time office-based position, but will be required when appropriate to research features, attend shows, conferences or other events in and out of office hours. These may be US based or abroad.

Responsibilities include commissioning stories, blogs and video, and managing and cataloguing all digital assets of the site. Copy-editing and also writing captions, headlines, and metadata. Cultivating a social media presence and general audience awareness of the site to drive traffic and audience loyalty. Producing specific site content areas without direct oversight, including newsletter and special sections as needed. Managing production schedules, liaising authors and other writers on a day to day basis. Cultivating editorial relationships with content partners, within and outside the BBC, including coordinating with colleagues at BBC television and the BBC newsroom. Managing rights of licensed content and ensuring published content meets rights and contractual agreements. Maintaining and updating the editorial calendar and other promotional / sales materials for Ad Sales. Working with Ad Sales to create editorial opportunities that generate content, audience and revenue opportunities. Managing a commissioning budget for paying contributors and content partners.

REQUIREMENTS:
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree with at least five years experience in journalism, focused on business content. Must have at least two years in an editorial and leadership capacity, ideally within a commercial environment. Extensive digital experience required, ideally including experience working as part of a news organization. Excellent management skills combined with the ability to keep commissions on vision, on budget, and on deadline. Excellent communication skills. Must be a problem-solver, detailed reader, creative thinker and entrepreneur.
