Hanley Wood,, currently has a growth position in our Los Angeles, CA office for an Online Editor. The Online Editor position involves managing and developing online editorial content for the Hanley Wood Pool Group and ancillary services. Qualified candidates will help make the company’s websites compelling, fun, easy-to-use and indispensable to end users. This individual will also follow online editorial projects through from conception to production while maintaining Hanley Wood editorial and production quality standards.

Scope of Position: Under the supervision of the Interactive Director, the Online Editor is responsible for the online editorial content, technical execution, and delivery to the end user of Pool Group Web sites, and for the implementation of related content-based extensions and ancillary services. Working closely with the Interactive Director, the Online Editor maintains and enhances our world-class Web sites, utilizing content from Hanley Wood publications, original reporting, outside news sources, multimedia, reader-generated content, blogs, social media and new and developing sources. The Online Editor edits sites daily, looking for news that will help our professional visitors run their businesses more efficiently and profitably. This position is responsible for converting and placing content from Hanley Wood magazines on websites, engaging our readers in online forums and interactive polls, and helping produce e-mail newsletters and new online features for our sites.

The ideal Hanley Wood Online Editor is a confident industry pro who will engage our web audience, take full charge of assigned websites, and push the boundaries as we roll out new features on a regular basis. While some writing is involved in the position – excellent writing and communication skills are required – this position is not a reporting position. Rather, it is a job for a technologically literate journalist who wants to create and improve our websites.

Qualified Candidates will possess the following Education, Experience, and Skills:

• Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communication, or a related field
• 4-6 years editorial experience in print or web journalism, news writing background a plus.
• Excellent skills in content editing, copy editing, and writing.
• Experience with or knowledge of online content management, MS Administrative/Clerical, PDF, XML, RSS, HTML, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Tridion, Brightcove Storymaker, online surveys, blogs and user-submitted content.
• Experience with or knowledge of social media networks (Facebook, Linkedin, Twitter) and social media management platforms such as HootSuite as well as community UGC sites.
• Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to multi-task and juggle multiple projects that are in varying states of completion.
• Ability to thrive under pressure, meet daily (sometimes hourly) deadlines and react quickly and calmly in a rapidly changing editorial environment.
