Mr. Michael Gaynor
College students and recent graduates: We're looking for bright people with good research, reporting, and writing skills who don't require a lot of hand-holding. In exchange, we offer an experience that's low on grunt work and high on opportunity. Duties include factchecking, research, and some writing. Editors, writers, and heads of the advertising, promotion, production, circulation, art, and photography departments meet with the editorial assistants once or twice a week to discuss their own roles at the magazine and careers in journalism. Graduates of our program have gone on to publications such as Vanity Fair, People, Entertainment Weekly, National Geographic, Allure, Martha Stewart Everyday Food, and USA Today (as well as landed full-time jobs at Washingtonian).

The positions are 40 hours a week for four months in the fall, five months in the spring, and three months in the summer. The pay is $8.25 per hour.

To apply: Please send a cover letter, resume, three writing samples, and a list of references to Michael Gaynor at, The Washingtonian, 1828 L St., NW, Suite 200, Washington, DC 20036.
