Under the direction of the Editor and Deputy Director, the Deputy Editor, CFR.org will manage the daily flow of content on CFR.org. The Deputy Editor will have a strong grasp of foreign policy issues to help oversee the production of original content from CFR.org staff and blending of relevant content from CFR Studies and Meetings for home page leader packages. The Deputy Editor will also oversee the curation of Must Reads from outside sources.

The responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):

•Regularly lead editorial meetings with staff to run through publishing plan and assignments.
•Directly supervise staff editors and writers, managing their production cycle, reviewing progress on deadlines, offering guidance on assignments, and providing and soliciting editorial feedback.
• “First reader” of content including backgrounders, interviews, expert roundups, and text for multimedia. Also assist in assigning expert briefs with fellows and editing.
•Assist with coordinating multimedia content, including charts, graphs, and maps, with leading text editorial content.
•Contribute to content, such as writing Backgrounders and conducting interviews for print and podcast.

Preferred Qualifications:
•Minimum five to seven years related editorial experience.
•Experience with basic digital production, including embedding images, video and other content.
•Demonstrated ability to assimilate and organize large amounts of information and generate creative ideas.
•Excellent knowledge of a wide range of current U. S. foreign policy and international relations issues
•Experience maintaining high journalistic standards under deadline pressure, including standards of objectivity, balance and fairness.
•Related management and supervisory experience.
•Proven ability to consistently work well with others.
•Flexibility to periodically work long hours based on news cycle and other priorities.
•Degree in international relations or a related field.
