Overview: Web Strategy & Innovation

The Web Strategy & Innovation team, positioned within the ACS Publications Sales & Marketing Department, is responsible for the ongoing development of strategic planning, features and functionality, production and maintenance, online community development, web advertising, single article transactions, metadata relationships, and performance metrics associated with the ACS Web Editions Platform. The team has a relentless commitment to building a better online experience and improving the scholarly research and communications environment each and every day. Constituents include authors, reviewers, ACS members, editors, end-users (subscribers and non-subscribers), and institutional librarian administrators. The Web Strategy & Innovation team also serves as a key collaborator with the society’s complete portfolio of Web properties, including C&EN Online, SciFinder/CAS,, ACS Technical Divisions, and the ACS Network.

As part of its mission, ACS Publications produces C&EN, the flagship publication sent in both print and digital formats to 161,000 ACS members. Printed each week, C&EN is consistently ranked by members as the most important benefit of membership in the ACS. C&EN has also launched a revenue based sponsored webinar program to complement its other product offerings including display and classifieds advertising, Show Press products, online advertising, ACS Careers and other print and online products. The ACS Advertising Sales Group is responsible for the sales and marketing of all advertising products and promoting C&EN’s brand to organizations in the U.S. and overseas. Inherent in this is producing electronic and print collateral outreaches and materials, supporting the sales group with research, presentations and conference planning, managing BPA audits and statements. This has included webinar logistics, vendor communications, marketing and sponsor coordination.

Position Summary

The Digital Advertising Coordinator reports to the Webinar Marketing Manager and will support the day-to-day logistics of the successful C&EN Webinar program and the growth in digital advertising on ACS’ many online platforms, including C&EN Online and the ACS Web Editions Platform. The responsibilities of this position also include scheduling, monitoring, and optimizing of online campaigns for multiple markets through the DFP (Dart for Publishers) Ad Server, assistance with campaign and traffic reporting and support for advertising sales representatives.

Position Accountabilities

1)Assists with all logistics when working with On24 technology vendor for each individual webinar.
2)Creates webinar schedule and calendar.
3)Works with the Market Development Manager, Online Advertising and C&EN Production team to monitor, optimize and manage campaigns on C&EN Online and the ACS Web Editions Platform. Provides forecasts of available banner and email inventory for sales representatives
4)Works with the external designer to produce branded emails, ads, online ads to promote each individual webinar.
5)Supports the communication process with sponsors from the “kick off” calls throughout the webinar planning and post wrap up process. Acts as the main interface in answering questions and solving any issues.
6)Supports advertiser email campaigns and newsletter products.
7)Implement traffic campaigns to ensure delivery of full campaign run; produce monthly reports for clients on the performance of their advertising and webinar campaigns.

Education/Experience/Technological Knowledge

College degree or equivalent experience or formal training 3+ years of experience; an advanced degree may be substituted for work experience. Knowledge of advertising technology and professional B2B advertising markets, including 3rd party ad servers, as well as an understanding of online advertising metrics and sales models preferred. Excellent written and oral communication skills required. Basic HTML skills and experience within the electronic publishing industry preferred.
