The weekend web editor will cover evening shifts on Saturday and Sunday nights, working from 4 to 12:30 each week. The weekend editor may also work a weekday shift as well as other relief shifts during the week when big news is breaking or staffing is needed

•Work closely with Editorial Director, Digital and Managing Editor as well as reporters, anchors and producers to report, write, edit, news stories, photos and videos on NBCNewYork.com and all of WNBC’s platforms, including broadcasts, taxicasts, social media and other platforms
•Be responsible for the overall coverage of assigned stories on all platforms throughout the shift including writing and updating news stories in the AP style and editing video on 24-7 deadlines
•Use superior news judgment and solid breaking news writing and editing skills in order to manage the web site on weekends and off hours
•Use social media as a promotion tool as well as a news-gathering tool and a listening post for breaking news and emerging trends.
•Move stories across platforms, developing web stories for the broadcast and broadcast stories for the web
•Track Omniture, Chartbeat and other real-time traffic metrics to grow audience and identify stories.
•Cover weekend shift and other weekday shifts as assigned by management, when needed

•Solid experience editing and writing AP-style copy in a deadline environment
•Proven track record with content management systems, video publishing tools and social media platforms
•Must be able to work early morning, night and weekend hours when demanded by breaking news or other editorial responsibilities

•Minimum 3 year’s experience in newsgathering and/or production
•Minimum 3 year’s experience writing, producing and desktop editing
•Strong desire to deliver news as it develops on all current and future platforms
•A sense of urgency and desire to learn emerging technologies
•Strong journalistic skills
•Significant experience in the news environment
•Ability to write, edit and produce under heavy deadline pressure without compromising accuracy or credibility
•Experience editing content on a desktop editing system
•Team player mentality
