Community Editor/Manager, Online Culinary Vertical
Workman Publishing is seeking an individual on a part-time (no more than 25 hours per week) freelance basis to manage one of its premier culinary sites. The Community Editor/Manager will be responsible for the creation of email newsletter and website content, community development, managing an online forum, social media promotion, and organic marketing of the assigned site. The Community Manager/Editor is accountable for maximizing traffic to assigned websites through the writing of benefit-oriented marketing/editorial copy, social media engagement, development of free offers, linking strategies, and use of high search volume keywords.The successful candidate will have experience writing for conversion and will be comfortable with writing for web, mobile, blogs, social, forums, SEO, email, advertising, and press releases. The candidate will also be versed in editorial strategy, and creating and maintaining an online editorial calendar. He or she will feel confident pitching and negotiating with publicists and editors at other publishing houses to schedule guest contributors and will work with advertisers and local merchants on promotions.Responsibilities include:•Writing up to five direct-to-consumer blog posts and two newsletters per week•Daily management of the online forum and marketing to the members.•Creating online and ecommerce calls to action and unique selling positions for consumer campaigns across multiple channels •Maintaining an acute knowledge of the market and the target audience to formulate a strategy that attracts and grows audience.•Managing community: oRecruit and foster moderators to moderate forum/groups oBuild the forum with marketing programs such as ambassadors, community member of the week, etc. oIntegrate additional guest blogs, link reviews, and third-party blogs using primary key clusters to attract and retain new members. oCommunicate community change recommendations to the Digital Business Director and participate in implementation.•Evaluating key metrics captured from completed campaigns and adapt copy and content strategies to increase effectiveness, increase conversions, and drive sales.•Monitoring best practices in writing for the web (including writing for conversion and writing for mobile devices), social media trends, web usability, web design and business and industry trends•Interacting with and respond to the needs of a diverse group of stakeholders including business director, talent, and guest contributors•Writing copy that responds to market needs, realities, risks, and opportunities and achieves business objectives that are grounded in customer needs. •Managing multiple editorial projects including creating a roadmap of promotion triggered to holidays, national/international festivals, a community wiki, regular blog posts and newsletters. Activities geared towards connecting users (Newsletters, Ambassador Programs, Engaging Bloggers, online event planning).•Identifying and engage end users and local influencers, using community activities, events and sponsorship opportunities•Executing events, both independently and with local organizations/companies. Negotiate co-marketing partnerships and sponsorship dealsGeneral knowledge and skills required include: SEO copywriting, keyword searches, exceptional writing, editing and proofreading skills. Strong conceptual skills; outstanding communication skills; excellent time and project management skills; ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines, understanding best practices around product marketing, sales enablement, blog postings and social media, understands and has experience with re-purposing content for multiple segments/audiences. Knowledge & Skills: •Education and/or experience –3-5 years of experience in managing websites and /or e-mail newsletter content or equivalent experience. Strong project manager. Proven ability to meet constant deadlines.•Market knowledge –Interest in foodie world, barbecuing a plus•Communication skills – Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with key stakeholders to achieve company goals. Able to write effective marketing editorial copy to drive registration and retention.•Analytical skills – Solid knowledge of and ability to utilize website and e-mail analytics to optimize attraction, retention, and revenue goals.•Technology – Experienced in using websites, online content management systems, email delivery systems, using forums and other types of social media. Experienced with WordPress, SEO, Google Analytics and Google Tools, MS Outlook, Word and Excel. Knowledge of HTML, image manipulation (resizing, cropping, adjusting, optimizing) and PDF creation. •Some experience with the following, a plus: Yoast SEO plugin for WordPress, knowledge of PHP, phpBB for forums, and Exact Target. •Experience in management of online communities. •Other requirements – Ability to adapt to a highly fluid work environment and make adjustments on the fly.
