The Institute for Children, Poverty, and Homelessness (ICPH) seeks a senior external affairs associate to join a multi-member external affairs team. The team is responsible for all communications and external affairs including media relations, public relations, and government relations; social media; conference and event planning; publication design, production, and distribution; database management; writing and editing publications, press releases, all collateral materials, op/eds, talking points, blogs, and other materials as needed; Web site content; public service announcements, ads, and promotional activities including non-profit book sales; in-house photography and videography; and coordination with outside vendors.

The senior external affairs associate reports to the director of external affairs. Primary responsibilities include: media relations (proactive and reactive); writing and editing (press releases, blogs and other original content, talking points, newsletters and other collateral materials); government and community relations; social media strategy and implementation; maintain media database; representation of Institute at events, including presentations/workshops; assisting with marketing and advertising (coordination with vendors and graphic artist; maintaining calendar and meeting all deadlines for submissions; ensuring accurate copy, content, and design); maintaining external affairs archives (publications, media mentions, articles, videos); and assisting with other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Expectations:

•Bachelor’s degree preferably in communications, journalism, or public relations
•3 to 5 years experience preferably at a non-profit, in government, or media
•Ability to take direction and juggle multiple projects simultaneously
•Keen attention to detail, well-organized, deadline-oriented
•Must adapt and thrive in a fast-paced environment with constantly changing priorities
•Excellent writing and verbal skills and ability to adapt writing style to audience (ie. Blogs, marketing/advertising, speeches, etc.)
•Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite a must
•Interest or background in human/social services, education, or government a plus
