We are currently seeking a Design Director, someone who oversees the design and layout of our monthly award-winning magazine, digital edition, and website as well as collateral materials.Responsibilities: Work closely with editors to create and oversee the overall look of the magazine, which goes out to a sophisticated and diverse readership of 140,000 lawyers in California. Supervise the art director. Oversee the design of the website. Hire and manage freelancer artists and photographers as needed for feature stories. Design and layout each month's cover and the feature stories; layout some departments and columns, conduct photo research, find illustrations and graphics for articles. Color correct photos and illustrations as needed. Design collateral materials (i.e. press kit). Manage the art and photo department budget. Coordinate with the production and editorial departments to make sure deadlines are met. At least 6 years of editorial design experience at a print magazine as the art director or deputy art director. Experience producing compelling covers, creating charts, graphs, and diagrams. Strong knowledge of and contacts among illustrators and photographers. Proficiency in InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Dreamweaver.
