The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), a nationally known nonprofit organization located in Montgomery, Alabama, seeks a Social Media Coordinator. The SPLC is a dynamic organization that advocates for social change through litigation, public policy advocacy, and education. We are looking for a positive, energetic, proactive, person to join our team of enthusiastic communication professionals.
The Social Media Coordinator is responsible for managing our social voice by publishing content across social media outlets, websites, blogs and email channels. The Social Media Coordinator will also contribute to growing our audience and expanding our influence by monitoring our social media presence, identifying opportunities to join conversations, establishing connections with key influencers, and driving engagement. The candidate must have a strong passion for advancing the cause of social justice.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
•Updates content on websites and blogs
•Updates content and maintains a consistent presence across all social media channels
•Assists communications team with social media copywriting and multimedia content creation
•Formats and deploys e-mail newsletters
•Monitors dialogue across designated social media channels
•Drives engagement by approving blog posts, providing initial responses to inquiries, engaging in dialogues and answering questions where appropriate
•Identifies larger trends and engagement opportunities, reports findings to Public Affairs Manager
•Assists the Public Affairs manager in formulating a comprehensive social media approach that is integrated with our larger communications strategy
•Assists the New Media Manager in the development and testing of methods for measuring the impact of social media programs

Qualifications & Requirements

•A Bachelors degree - preferably with coursework or equivalent experience in any of these disciplines: digital communications, public relations, non profit advocacy, social justice or human rights
•2 years of professional experience working in a digital/social media capacity
•Complete proficiency with Social Media practices, tools and platforms (Facebook, Twitter, etc.)
•A keen understanding of how social media is applied to public relations, preferably in the non profit space
•Experience with content management systems
•Experience with metrics tools, including Adobe Social, Radian6, SimplyMeasured, Sprout Social or similar tools
•Experience working for a non profit, political campaign or social action campaign a plus

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
•Demonstrable knowledge of best practices in community management
•Demonstrable knowledge of best practices and standards for the creation of compelling social media content
•Excellent written communication skills
•Strong copyediting and proofreading skills
•Ability to multi-task under high-pressure situations
•Highly proactive innovative problem solver
•Strong organizational skills - ability to independently manage priorities
•Ability to adapt to rapid developments and shifting deadlines
•Ability to collect information from non tech-savvy stake holders and translate into action
•Collaborative supportive and patient with individuals who have diverse expertise and work styles
•Positive energetic personable and respectful of others
•Strong passion for social justice and fostering social change

Technical Requirements

•Familiarity with standard multimedia production applications (Photoshop)
•Basic knowledge of web programming languages (HTML, CSS) a plus
•Experience with Google analytics ad other analytics platforms a plus
•Fluency with office applications such as Microsoft outlook, PowerPoint and Excel

Other Special Considerations
•Flexible schedule, available “on call” for after-hours events & activities
