The Sr Research Manager will work closely with the Research Director to position USA TODAY and USA Weekend as leaders in the marketplace. Manage large, key categories for both USA TODAY and USA Weekend sales teams. Requires expert command of syndicated, proprietary and internal resources to understand all aspects of the USA TODAY/USA Weekend audiences, including demographics, psychographics and buying behaviors, across all business platforms. Emphasis on support of USA Weekend circulation sales strategy. Candidate should be a high-energy, strategic thinker who will build and maintain relationships with internal and external customers to heighten impact of research findings. Strong analytical, presentation, and PC skills a must. Experience with media/advertising environment is mandatory, and experience in primary research is a must. Minimum requirements are a college degree; seven to 10 years relevant experience; excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal and time-management skills; and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, data-intensive, multi-project environment. Must have extensive working experience with Microsoft Office applications, online/off-line media data retrieval systems, and syndicated research services such as MRI, comScore, MMR, Kantar, etc.


Retrieve, analyze and interpret syndicated and proprietary research data for marketing, editorial, advertising and circulation sales personnel, and management
Leverage strong concentration of digital and mobile studies and use data points to create a story
Provide counsel to sales team, marketing, and fellow research staff members in developing marketing strategies and strategic initiatives to accomplish those strategies
Develop a solid understanding of the competitive advertising and circulation environments of USA TODAY and USA Weekend in order to work with sales, marketing, management and fellow research associates in the development of analyses, research materials and action plans that support their efforts in competing for business
Conduct data analysis to clearly and concisely present the results to management, sales personnel and/or associate analysts, agencies and clients
Be proactive in identifying, analyzing and recommending solutions to client and departmental challenges
Accompany salespeople on calls at agencies or clients
Manage small staff of research managers, analysts or freelancers as needed
Participate in project work as directed by supervisor


Must be able to convert raw research data into a visually-rich story
Extensive working experience with syndicated research services, such as MRI, MMR, comScore, Kantar, etc.
Extensive working experience with digital and mobile research data
Extensive working experience with on-line/off-line media data retrieval systems
Extensive working experience with survey/syndicated research methodologies, implementation and data tabulation and analysis

College education with emphasis in business administration, marketing, research and/or social science disciplines
7-10 years working experience in media research/planning/strategy using syndicated and proprietary data
7-10 years previous work experience in the media/publishing industry
7-10 years previous work experience working with sales personnel
