Ms. Sierra Club Human Resources
Full Time
The Sierra Club, the nation's oldest and largest grassroots environmental organization, seeks a DC-based press secretary for our ground-breaking Beyond Coal campaign.

This key Associate Press Secretary position helps guide regional media strategy for the Sierra Club's Beyond Coal campaign and oversees communications for the campaign's Campuses Beyond Coal initiative. Bolstered by a $50 million grant from Mayor Michael Bloomberg's Bloomberg Philanthropies, the Beyond Coal campaign is an ambitious effort that aims to retire a third of the nation's coal-burning power plants and replace them with wind, solar, and other clean energy alternatives over the next decade.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter that is entrepreneurial, resourceful, creative, has an understanding of grassroots organizing—particularly on college campuses—and is eager to join a fast-paced team of communications professionals. In addition to shaping messaging, strategy and tactics, this person will maintain key media relationships, pitch and promote stories for the campaign, create paid-media plans, and serve as on-the-record spokesperson for news outlets. Candidates should have 3+ years of media and communications experience, and a passion for environmental and social change.
