Hanley Wood, www.hanleywood.com, is currently seeking an Editor in the Business Media division. The Editor of ProSales is responsible for the strategic editorial direction of the magazine and serves as its primary public spokesman at events, trade shows, and conferences. This individual is responsible for programming for all conferences produced by the magazine and provides assistance in developing other products to be produced by the magazine. The Editor provides leadership, guidance and direction to editorial staff members and works with other Hanley Wood editors toward achieving common objectives.

Major Job Responsibilities and Related Duties:

1) Manage, write for, and edit all print and digital products. At present, these are:
ProSales magazine
ProSales Business Update e-newsletter
ProSalesMagazine.com website
Chart of the Month e-newsletter
ProSales’ Facebook page, Twitter feed, LinkedIn group, and related social media.
All databases maintained by ProSales. These primarily include the openings, closures, and deals databases as well as ProSales 100 research.)
2) Assure that ProSales magazine and all digital products meet their deadlines. See that databases are updated frequently.

3) Play an integral role in ProSales’ transition from a print-oriented editorial production style to a digital-first style.

4) Develop and manage ProSales’ editorial budget.

5) Organize events and projects as needed. At present, these include:
ProSales 100
Excellence Awards
Dealer of the Year
ProSales breakfast at IBS
The ProSales 100 Conference.
In addition, organize internal meetings, such as the 2014 editorial planning session this summer.

6) Travel as needed. (Traveling roughly 10x/year would not be uncommon.)

7) Manage staff and help them grow as journalists.

8) Manage freelancers and contributors. Assign stories to them and process their invoices.

9) Identify trends within the industry, becoming one of the nation’s leading experts on building material dealers.

10) Speak publicly to groups on behalf of ProSales.

11) Serve as Hanley Wood’s in-house expert on the building material supply chain.

12) Contribute to corporate initiatives, such as the Idea Factory.

Performance Expectations

1) At minimum, maintain key digital metrics—such as ProSales Business Update’s open rates and the website’s visits and page view numbers—at the levels they were upon arrival.

2) Continue to produce award-winning work, as evidenced by prizes in the Neal, Azbee, and NAREE contests.

3) Show continuous personal improvement by:
Expanding knowledge of the industry
Learning new journalism skills.
4) Become known in the industry as an authority on building material dealers.

Qualified Candidates should possess the following Education, Experience, and Skills:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Journalism, English, Communications, or a related field
Minimum of 5 years of experience in writing, editing, and managing staff
Demonstrated writing and editing skills
Past editorial management experience
Ability to manage, mentor, and motivate employees
Ability to communicate objectives and goals to staff and senior management
Effective public speaker
Experience in managing editorial operation budgets
Familiarity with writing, editing, computation, web, and pagination software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; basic HTML language, simple databases; social media systems such as HootSuite; and editing programs like InCopy, WoodWing, and WordPress.
