Sr. Fashion Editor
Niche Media is looking for a driven, experienced fashion market editor to join our high-performing New York team and cover the fashion and accessory market for various titles in the Niche Media family, with a focus on both the women's and menswear markets. The primary duties for this position include the following: •Covers fashion and accessory market for both women's and menswear market including fine jewelry. Writes/reports on trends and related regional retail news and acts as a fashion point person/editor for multiple city titles in Niche Media family.•Manages the fashion content for multiple magazines from shorter news pieces to larger features; understanding the market specific needs and aesthetic as it differs in the cities Niche Media is in. •Works closely with Executive Fashion Director, acting as leader/mentor to fashion team. •Represents the fashion department at events and market appointments, stays abreast of industry news and trends.•Calls in merchandise for photo shoots utilizing solid base of industry contacts. •Attends fashion shows and report back on trends.•Works directly with Executive Fashion Director to conceptualize ideas for location photo shoots, still-life pages and news pages for both city titles and custom publications by understanding trends via attending fashion shows and appointments.•Works closely with fashion PR teams to ensure merchandise acquired for shoots is available in market(s) where merchandise will be featured.•Potentially styles fashion shoots on an as-needed basis.•Writes fashion-related short news items that are informative and geared toward specific regional markets.•Maintains a passion for market work to discover luxury-driven merchandise that would be an ideal fit for one or more of our regional publications.•Works with Executive Fashion Director to edit product for fashion stories, news and still-life pages prior to shooting.•Communicates and build strong relationships with PR reps throughout the fashion and accessory industries.•Builds strong working relationships with other departments within the organization (art, photo, copy, fact, events, finance, etc).•Maintains the schedule of your assigned stories and work closely with managing editors to ensure deadlines are met.•Other duties as assigned.The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:•Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.•4-5 years fashion editorial experience, ideally in the luxury lifestyle space.•Solid writing ability; able to craft fashion news and features to meet journalistic standards. •Experience covering fine-jewelry market.•Ability to operate a computer and Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, Outlook and InDesign.•Ability to use MAC platform.Successful candidates work well under pressure and thrive in a dynamic, deadline-driven, rapidly changing environment.
