Media Relations Assistant

Massachusetts Institute of Technology


The MIT News Office seeks an individual to perform a variety of media relations duties. Primary responsibilities include monitoring and evaluating MIT press coverage and assembling daily, weekly, and monthly media reports; early-morning clips preparation; managing extensive media contacts database; and providing general administrative support to media relations team. The position also offers an opportunity to write, handle media inquiries and arrange interviews with MIT faculty, coordinate media visits to the MIT campus, and organize media events.


Requirements: some experience working in media relations/public relations or media generally; ability to work in a fast-paced environment; and excellent writing and interpersonal skills, including the ability to represent MIT to the news media and interact with MIT faculty and senior administration. A background in science/technology would be a major plus. Must be highly organized and meticulous when preparing press materials and other collateral. A bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, English, or related field preferred, as is familiarity with Vocus or other public relations database.
