Responsible for increasing company profitability via acquisitions that are consistent with the company's reputation as a high quality, first to market publisher. Involves extensive travel, industrial contacts, author contact, proposal review, and long range planning for growth and the development of the program. Requires someone who is innovative, communicates and negotiates effectively to gain new clients for acquiring and managing a portfolio.

• Pursues an active and efficient acquisitions policy through correspondence, meetings/trips, telephone consultations with marketing and business development managers at major computer and business companies, etc. Approximately 30% travel required as well as strong initiative and independent ability to gain and impress new clients.
• Discusses, proposes and negotiates financial and budgetary plans with clients and authors to publish books in the Apress program.
• Works with operations to plan and develop acquisition tools and portals.
• Develops guidelines, plans, reporting systems, etc., to implement publishing plans.
• Prepares and executes publishing contracts.
• Obtains reviewers and advisors and evaluates their judgments.
• Maintains current status of all projects in the program. Ensures timely preparation of manuscripts in form suitable for production.
• Reviews and discusses new projects and plans with editorial colleagues particularly in overlapping areas.
• Performs related duties as required.

Job requirements
• Bachelor's degree or higher (Master's degree preferred).
• Two years' experience in publishing (editorial acquisitions required).
• Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills required.
• Must be willing and able to travel regularly domestically and internationally.
