The Sales Representative will be expected to meet and exceed sales objectives in their assigned region by promoting and selling the full suite of Palgrave Macmillan Online Reference Products (which include the Dictionary of Economics, The Statesman’s Yearbook, World of Higher Education Database, International Historical Statistics), Palgrave Journals and Palgrave Connect –Palgrave Macmillan’s Premier Online eBook platform.


The ideal candidate will have a minimum of two (2) years sales experience in publishing with primary expertise in consultative selling in a fast paced environment.
The SR will be expected to develop revenue by managing incoming calls, initiating and maintaining ongoing relationships with key accounts, adding new subscribers, and cross-selling. Sales activities will include negotiating agreements with major consortia, multi-state institutions, government entities, corporate accounts, public libraries and faculty.
This position requires excellent organizational skills, key account management skills, and a sharp consultative selling approach.

Additionally, the SR will be expected to keep current on market and competitor trends, exhibit a high-level of initiative and self-motivation, as well as demonstrate the effective ability to work as part of a team. Excellent communication and project management skills are essential. Occasional travel to customers and library conferences will be required.

Major Responsibilities:

Sell Palgrave Macmillan’s Suite of online products to consortia, academic libraries, public libraries, faculty, corporate libraries and governmental institutions in assigned territory.
Maintain an aggressive call rate while contacting customers using a pre-determined list of leads as well as research new sales channels.

Provide prospective customers with information about the product, price quotes, presentations, and assist with setting up and maximizing trials of the online product.
Complete weekly and monthly sales reports on a timely basis.

Participate in sales meetings and trainings designed to enhance product knowledge.
Required Skills / Knowledge:
Excellent communication skills and professional telephone manner;
Superior organizational skills
Comfortable with presenting to small and large groups
Ability to work independently as well as part of a sales team
A strong knowledge of computers and current software

Experience Needed:

2+ years of telephone sales and proactive customer service experience preferred
Educational Background Required:
College Degree required.
