The National Association of Community Health Centers – a mid-sized, non-profit committed to providing high-quality and patient-directed health care to underserved communities is seeking a full time National Advocacy Specialist in our Federal and State Affairs department.

The National Advocacy Specialist is a member of the NACHC Advocacy team with responsibility for planning, implementation and coordination of social media, web and other new technologies to expand the NACHC Grassroots Advocacy Network and increase the impact of health center advocacy. The National Advocacy Specialist will also work with Health Centers and Primary Care Associations in Regions 2 & 3 (Mid-Atlantic) to develop their internal advocacy effectiveness and assist in implementing local social media and online activities. The Specialist will also be responsible for translating appropriate advocacy and civic engagement materials into Spanish.

This is a mid-level position in a thought-provoking, fast-paced, exciting health policy and advocacy environment.

Specifically, the National Advocacy Specialist will:
•Maintain administration of advocacy related social media and web tools including Twitter, Facebook, You Tube and other video and SMS and Mobile messaging
•Provide training and support to Primary Care Association and Health Center advocacy staff to maximize the effectiveness and coordination of social media and web tools
•Assist the NACHC Federal and State Affairs and Communications staff in coordinating online and in person grassroots messaging with health centers and PCAs
•Support state association designated State Advocacy Coordinators
•Assist State Advocacy Coordinators in identifying, training and support Health Center Advocacy Coordinators
•Educate health centers about policy issues related to NACHC’s advocacy issue campaigns, and continually update them on developments as they occur
•Conduct training, outreach and educational presentations on advocacy, social media and civic engagement
•Translate advocacy materials into Spanish
•Oversee National Health Center Week online and Web visibility
•Identify and evaluate new technologies and tools to increase grassroots outreach and effectiveness
•Regularly develop and post content to provide advocacy technical assistance (how to edit a video, social medial policies, advocacy work plan models, etc).
•Edit and finalize video collected by Advocacy Staff and health center advocates

Qualifications for Position
•BA or BS degree (required)
•Minimum 5 years’ experience in grassroots advocacy or community organizing









Skills and Knowledge Required
•Knowledge of federal legislative process and actors
•Fluency in Spanish including English to Spanish translation ability (verbal/written)
•Knowledge of grassroots communications tools and tactics
•Intermediate WordPress experience, including at least a basic understanding of HTML
•Experience in the use of social media sites, including Facebook and Twitter
•Experience editing video files using software such as Windows Movie Maker or iMovie
•Basic Photoshop experience
•Experience with Pinterest, Instagram, YouTube, Flickr, LinkedIn
•Experience utilizing a blast text message platform
•Proficiency with Microsoft Office software programs, including Word, Excel, and Powerpoint

Amount of travel and any other special considerations
Occasional travel, involving roughly 25% of time; Occasional night and weekend work
