Senior Project Manager, News Agency


There is an opportunity for an experienced Senior Project Manager to join the News Agency Program Team.

The objective of this role is to:

Ensure the successful delivery of large complex global projects from initiation through deployment and drive good project management rigor throughout.

Manage all project activities and deliverables to agreed quality, time and budget specifications.

Communicate project status, milestones and dependencies to a large audience.

Ensure adherence to Thomson Reuters' & News Agency Team’s project processes.

The successful candidate will be an experienced and capable project manager with a proven track record of partnering with business sponsors & customers to prioritize resource and successfully deliver complex strategic initiatives from initiation through deployment in a dynamic environment. The successful candidate will have excellent communication, leadership, relationship building skills and expertise running global cross-functional teams.


- Define, document and execute multiple global projects; actively managing all phases of the project

- Actively engage with several global development and product groups to ensure synchronization and awareness of all plans

- Actively engage with third party, off-shore and outsourced development teams; taking responsibility for ensuring project plans are tightly coupled and deliverables aligned

- Communications Planning & Execution - Facilitate a clear communication channel between outsourced and off-shore development teams and internal Thomson Reuters groups

- Project Planning - Create project plans, schedules, and roadmaps; tracking progress against plans; establish project milestones that reflect realization of agreed business benefits within timeframe and budget; identify and track milestones, deliverables, risks, issues, changes and dependencies within the schedule

- Project risk management - Identify, assess, manage and mitigate project risks to successful project completion

- Project change control - Ensure the appropriate solution or budget is presented so that projected business benefits are realized; ensure revisions to the project are agreed with stakeholders and full impact of changes is understood by stakeholders

- Project Tracking - Monitor and report status from each deliverable group to all relevant parties; highlight divergence from scope and adjust where necessary; gain commitments to ensure corrective actions are taken if costs, timescales or resources deviate from agreed tolerances

- Stakeholder Management - Work with stakeholders to ensure successful completion of all project deliverables; ensure all groups are aware of project scope, their responsibility for delivering projects and milestones; ensure the right resources are available at the right time with the right skills

- Vendor Management - Monitor deliverables from outsourced development teams ensuring smooth transition and handoff to various Thomson Reuters groups

- Ensure compliance with Thomson Reuters Project Process; maintain project library including all key project documentation

- Ensure that the plan, solution, resources and budget support realization of business benefits

- Promote a culture of business execution excellence, with the right level of framework and governance for each initiative

- Contribute to the ongoing development and implementation of project process, tools and techniques such that they develop in line with company organizational, technical and commercial requirements

- Perform other assignments as requested by manager

- Travel may be required

Required Skills


- Minimum 5+ years (7-10 recommended) of project management experience or an equivalent combination of project management experience, business experience and education, preferably in the news media industry

- Experience managing geographically distributed, business & technology focused, multi-disciplinary project teams including third parties

- Experience managing onshore and offshore development projects with extensive communication and risk management

- Experience working with project reporting and project management tools

- Experience creating complete detailed plans for complex projects and the ability to track progress against these plans

- Experience working within or managing projects that utilize multiple technologies including Linux & Windows servers, Java applications, and related technologies.

- Knowledge of and experience managing projects end to end through the SDLC

- Experience managing large scale implementations of agile processes (Kanban, Scrum) a plus

- Bachelor's degree

- PMP Certification strongly desired


- Must be capable of managing several global projects simultaneously in a dynamic environment

- Excellent organization, verbal and written communication skills

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, particularly motivational, negotiation, listening, judgment, analytic ability, and conflict management skills

- Strong leadership, implementation and team building skills

- Extensive use of Microsoft Office and project planning tools
