Marketing and Media Director
The Marketing and Media Director will support the Poetry Foundation and its programs in bringing poetry to the largest possible audience. The Director’s portfolio has two main components: 1) marketing Foundation programs and managing Foundation communications with all of its constituents, including media, the poetry community, cultural institutions, and other stakeholders, and 2) managing the Foundation’s portfolio of broadcast media partnerships. The position reports to the President of the Foundation.Qualifications:•Five years of experience in communications field•Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, marketing, or related field•Marketing and communications work in not-for-profit, literary, or cultural institutions preferred, poetry connection a definite plus•Excellent written and oral communications skills•Track record of success in identifying and securing high-impact local and national print, broadcast, and digital media placements•Strong organizational skills, with ability to successfully handle multiple tasks and simultaneous assignments•Strategic thinker, and issues manager when needed•Ability to produce results with limited supervision•Positive attitude and negotiation skills•Collaborative approach; enjoys working in a collegial environment•Ability to represent the Foundation as a spokesperson•Experience with communications research and measurement toolsJob Details:Marketing programs and managing communicationsWork with the Foundation’s President and senior program managers to promote and support the organization’s mission, positive reputation, and poetry programming•Monitor all Foundation activities in order to identify potential opportunities and issues•Develop messaging and communications plans that meet established objectives•Serve as lead public relations contact for media inquiries and requests•Develop and pitch proactive story ideas to media outlets•Work with senior staff to promote and market program events and initiatives, helping to boost attendance and Foundation reputation•Support direct mail and other marketing efforts for magazine subscriptions and circulation•Assist program managers when dealing with Foundation partners in media matters•Manage selective use of external consultants, as requiredManaging broadcast media partnershipsWork with external broadcast organizations to bring poetry programming to radio, television, and film •Manage existing partnerships and financial sponsorships with broadcast media•Monitor budget and efficacy and manage performance of these sponsorships to ensure that the largest possible audience is reached, in order to maximize the Foundation’s financial investment•Identify and develop new opportunities•Develop and maintain positive working relationships with strategic media outlets•Respond to specific media requests for poetry content, with a special effort to use materials developed by Foundation programsSalary: This position offers a competitive salary and excellent benefits.
