Position Description:
We are looking for a production-editorial coordinator for Tor/Forge’s Managing Editorial department. The qualified candidate will be responsible for handling production editing work on approximately twelve to eighteen mass-market paperback and e-book originals per year, plus approximately sixty-five paperback resets per year, as well as some reductions from hardcover and reprints (mostly fiction; possible occasional light nonfiction). This will include assessing original manuscripts for copyediting needs; hiring and supervising freelance copy editors, proofreaders; collating author’s changes and checking corrections; copyediting and proofing covers; reviewing any illustrative materials; and checking book repro and cover proofs.

Major Responsibilities:
• Shepherd mass-market titles from text transmittal to bound book, tracking all text and cover materials throughout the production process
• Work directly with our print-production vendor’s production managers and text designers and with editors and cover designers within the company, as well as members of other departments within the company, such as Publicity and Marketing, regarding production schedules, deadlines, and other related concerns
• Prepare text transmittal materials for design and composition;
• Supervise freelance copy editors, proofreaders, and, occasionally, indexers
• Copyedit/proofread mass-market cover copy and mechanicals
• Implement editorial corrections as needed for all reprints
• Maintain high quality; meet schedules
• Some administrative tasks /reporting
• Maintain production filing system for active titles

Required Skills / Knowledge:
• Copyediting; familiarity with the Chicago Manual of Style
• Proofreading
• Familiarity with book production editing procedures
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and keep focus on maintaining high quality of books
• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel)
• Working knowledge of other programs (MS PowerPoint; Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.) a plus

Educational Background Required:
• Bachelor’s degree
• 1 to 3 years’ book production-editing experience
