Job Summary:

Literary agency seeks full time assistant to work closely with Executive Vice President/Agent. Applicant should be interested in both fiction and non-fiction, including commercial fiction, history, thrillers, current events, science-fiction, fantasy, narrative non-fiction, literary fiction, young adult, biography, and literary memoir.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

-Answering and placing telephone calls
-Composing pitch letters for submissions
-Taking dictation and drafting correspondence
-Writing rejection letters
-Drafting permission agreements
-Tracking payments and contracts through various stages
-Processing checks and royalty statements
-Tracking submissions
-Keeping detailed schedules
-Generating expense reports
-Corresponding with clients and editors via email and phone
-Reading queries and evaluating manuscripts
-Updating publisher’s list
-Working closely with the eBook team
-Providing updates for the Foreign Rights Guide
-Managing two large estates
-Tracking reversions and rights for backlist titles

-Bachelor’s degree
-1-2 years experience at an agency or in book publishing
-Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Lotus, and Outlook
-Superior organizational skills and very detail-oriented
-Ability to prioritize and multi-task
-Knowledge of BAITS software a PLUS
