Online Communication Specialist
SummaryThe Online Communications Specialist works in the Office of Public Affairs and Communications (PAC) and assists with the regular maintenance of all of USIP’s digital communications channels, including USIP.org, USIP’s social media sites, project-based websites, and email marketing. She/he will be highly innovative and adaptable, able to spot and understand trends and recommend how to react to them, and possess strong written, oral and interpersonal skills. The position works closely with and will coordinate with the Online Communications Manager.Major Duties and ResponsibilitiesWebsiteUpdate daily the USIP.org homepage in coordination with the senior editor, with a focus on identifying and editing/cropping photos for feature story displays.Receive and process all requests from departmental web contributors for posting; assess, prioritize, and manage requests to ensure content attracts users and search engines.Finalize, format, add relevant links, and test news posts for quality assurance before publishing to USIP.org.Communicate across the organization to identify and encourage new and relevant content, and generally ensuring that the USIP website is timely, relevant, and newsworthy.Ensure optimal use of Drupal Content Management System.Monitor Google Analytics; assist with setting traffic goals and developing and implementing strategies—including SEO—to drive traffic to the USIP website and ensure continuous improvement.Assist with ongoing training for USIP’s team of web contributors.Help troubleshoot and resolve web-related problems.Email MarketingCreate templates for email newsletters/products and manage workflow and production (including final dissemination) of USIP programmatic email communications.Ensure appropriate presentation of messages in various email systems before distribution.Formulate and maintain various reports and dashboards and make recommendations on improvements.Use contact database (Salesforce) to generate email distribution lists; run regular process at pre-determined intervals to maintain and assure data integrity.QualificationsApplicants must be U.S. citizens or nationals of countries listed in our Foreign Hiring Policy.Bachelor’s degree with focus on communications, computer science, technology, marketing, or related field is required; or equivalent experience in a related field.Minimum of two years of web publishing, content management, and web editing experience is required.Must have demonstrated experience using a content management system (preferably Drupal) and email marketing software (preferably Exact Target).Must have experience using social media to pursue organizational goals.Knowledge of photo editing software (Adobe Photoshop) and HTML editors is required.Must have strong editing, website design/management, and technical skills, including familiarity with FTP Clients, Acrobat, Photoshop, Illustrator and Dreamweaver software.Must have familiarity with and demonstrated interest in web standards, including accessibility and usability, as well as best practices and procedures within the industry.Must have ability to analyze problems and communicate clearly and concisely.Must have excellent writing skills and command of English language.Must have keen attention to detail.Must have ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects, work independently and in collaboration with team members and with staff across the Institute.Familiarity with email marketing and social media strategies.Understanding of database systems (Salesforce, especially) is preferred.Employment with USIP is not employment with the US GovernmentAll USIP contract and employee positions are contingent upon the favorable completion of a suitability background investigation.Compensation is commensurate with qualifications and experience.How to Apply: To be considered for this position, please submit a complete application package consisting of:1.
