About the Position
Reporting to the Senior Director, Alumni & Donor Relations, the Communications Manager will manage the operations and workflow of alumni-facing communications for the Kellogg Office of Advancement. This position will leverage various channels to engage alumni and deliver on the school's value proposition to alumni. The Communications Manager will effectively serve as a managing editor, managing the scheduling, segmentation and sequencing of communications to more than 54,000 alumni through various channels including, but not limited to: web-based communication, email, direct mail, print projects, and social media. The Communications Manager will serve as the primary liaison for project management purposes with the Kellogg Marketing and Communications department and will partner with Marketing and Communications on a wide range of projects. Within the Office of Advancement, the Communications Manager will work closely with the Director of Alumni Engagement on optimizing the content and sequencing of all alumni communications. The Communications Manager will directly supervisor one administrator, a writer.
Requires scheduled evening and night work. Requires ability to travel to Miami campus when need arises.

This critical role:
•Owns responsibility for production schedule, trafficking, and approval process for alumni email communications, annual giving communications (including but not limited to direct mail), alumni print magazine, marketing campaigns for new initiatives such as the roll-out of the new web-based alumni community platform;
•Leads and manages direct reports within the Office of Advancement;
•Recruits and selects, develops and coaches, rewards and retains, and optimizes talent;
•Embeds Kellogg School of Management's mission/strategy, leadership philosophy/approach and performance driven culture (intellectual curiosity and continuous improvement);
•Contributes to the development and manage the execution of a communications stream that delivers the Kellogg School's content strategy to alumni as part of a comprehensive alumni engagement strategy;
•Champions an audience-centric perspective on the alumni communications stream that understands communications projects from the point of view of the recipient;
•Analyzes communications data such as email open rates, social media engagement, and direct mail response to optimize future communications sequencing;
•Partners with Community Manager to determine and deliver appropriate push messaging for the alumni community platform, as well as messaging on third-party social media platforms;
•Manages communications stream for special events on campus and in key regional markets, including email invitations, reminders and follow-ups;
•Performs related duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
•A bachelor's degree or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience from which comparable skills can be acquired;
•Five years of experience in CRM and/or strategic communications or experience as a managing editor or production manager in a complex, multi-channel editorial environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
•A master's degree or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience from which comparable skills can be acquired;
•More than five years in a communications role managing complex CRM communications including back-end database management and user-facing content-management systems;
•Experience in an environment in which copy-editing, proofreading and quality assurance are vital.
