Java Backend Engineer
POPSUGAR, the leader in online media for women and recently named to the "10 San Francisco Tech Companies You Wish You Worked For" by WIRED (http://www.wired.com/business/2012/10/best-san-francisco-tech-companies?...), is looking for to add a Java Backend Engineer to our POPSUGAR shopping team. You are a skilled and driven engineer with background in Java applications and serious server-side chops working on dynamic consumer experiences. Together we're building the next generation of social shopping with the best quality content and user experience in the market. We're looking for a leader to help us design, drive and build: interactive search and real-time filtering; mobile shopping; great social and sharing features; a killer API and widget program; international content; scaling, performance, big data, and much more. Responsibilities: * Build Java-based web applications, from the front end to the business and data layers. * Solving medium to large data issues and challenges. * Design and implement backend features to support rich dynamic web experiences * Contribute to weekly product releases, code reviews, with a small and dynamic engineering team. Requirements: * BS or MS in Computer Science or equivalent. * Good understanding of core OO principles (loose coupling, encapsulation) * Familiar with backend paradigms (multithreading, caching, performance tuning) * Experience with relational databases (advanced SQL queries) * Passion and skills in user experience, web design and building excellent solutions. Ideally you have: * Experience with MongoDB or other NoSQL solution * Implemented server-side components using Java, Apache and MySQL * Experience with SOLR and/or Lucene (or other search frameworks).
