Hanley Wood,, currently has an opportunity in our Los Angeles, CA office for Deputy Editor, Aquatics International. The Deputy Editor will be a part of the Hanley Wood Pool Group and ancillary services. The Deputy Editor will research, analyze, report and write authoritatively on issues related to the swimming pool and aquatics industry. This individual will assist in the broader development of magazine projects including theme issues and special reports. An ideal candidate's strengths will lie in well-reported content, use of digital platforms, organizational and project executional skills, and the ability to cultivate a network of sources.

Scope of Position

Research, analyze, report and write authoritatively on issues related to the swimming pool and aquatics industries. Assist in the management of day-to-day operations for Aquatics International.

Major Responsibilities:


Work with Sales Department and Editor in Chief to develop annual editorial calendar and related schedules for Aquatics International.
Assure that Aquatics International and all related digital products meet their deadlines.
See that databases are updated frequently.
Manage the flow of content across all brand platforms
Oversee freelancers and contributors. Assign stories and process invoices.


Develop story ideas and proposals for all issues of Aquatics International and assist with proposals for Pool & Spa News.
Research and write compelling features, news and blogs on deadline.
Post content in all social media platforms daily, and participate in the content-creation and development of enewsletters
Develop ideas to grow our presence online
Develop potential photo/illustration ideas


Ability to travel several times per year to attend industry events and build relationships with key contacts
Become known in the industry as an authority on the top-of-mind issues facing waterparks and other aquatic facilities
Qualified Candidates should possess the following Education, Experience, and Skills:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Journalism, English or Communications
Minimum of 4 years of journalism experience writing and editing
Minimum of 1 year of editorial management experience
