The Production department of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) seeks a technically adept, detail-oriented Production Specialist to handle desktop page production, file transmissions and trafficking along with a variety of related general production tasks.

This is not a design position, but solid knowledge of Mac-based Adobe Creative Suite, and MS Office software a must. Keyboard accuracy and familiarity with proofreader’s marks required. Technical savvy and experience with XML and Web technology a plus. BA preferred or equivalent magazine production experience.

Major duties and responsibilities:

• Is responsible for electronic production and manipulation of selected desktop pages
• Processes file transmission and page-checking
• Provides back-up for other staff members
• Other production-related functions as assigned

Minimum requirements:

• Position requires a formal training program of two years beyond high school or an Associate’s degree; Bachelor’s degree or equivalent magazine production experience preferred
• Two to three years of related experience, preferably to include computer-based publication production and layout experience
• Strong technology skills in contemporary software packages, particularly Macintosh page layout and a variety of graphic programs to include Adobe Creative Suite; strong desktop publishing abilities; familiarity with XML and Web-based software helpful;
• Keyboard accuracy and familiarity with proofreader’s marks
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
• Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
