Position Description: Experienced associate book editor with ability to conceive, organize, produce, and coordinate compelling cookbooks and lifestyle publications for varied and specific brands, including Southern Living magazine.

• Publishing and writing experience
• Excellent creative sense of visual/text pacing and ability to communicate that sense
• Trend savvy, particularly as pertains to lifestyle and cookbook publishing
• Working knowledge of food/recipes
• Team player with good presentation skills and personality that connects well with others
• Ability to successfully meet deadlines

•Provide team leadership to assigned projects, from concept through published work, including conceiving and proposing compelling and competitive brand-targeted books and newsstand publications; creating and managing schedules; collaborating on design development as well as recipe development, testing, and editing; researching, writing, and editing text; planning and supervising photography; delivering clean manuscript in a timely manner; and supporting marketing and promotions departments.
•Study lifestyle, cooking, and book publishing trends; stay informed and ahead of the curve in trends as they relate to publishing opportunities. Develop and maintain professional relationships with industry-related contacts nationwide.
•Create comprehensive and persuasive proposals, and authoritatively present proposals to Publishing Group in a creative and professional manner. Develop project criteria, outlines, specifications, and book budgets. Establish and identify needs and standards for manuscript development, photo, and design.
•Guide content and design development of assigned projects. Collaborate frequently with editors, designers, freelancers, test kitchen, photo, production, and other related team members for efficient and effective workflow and to ensure end product meets approved specifications. Participate in taste­testing as required. Recommend, recruit, supervise, and edit freelance writers and other freelance personnel as needed.
•Work with Brand Managers to identify brand requirements and to build and maintain brand relationships. Stay informed on brand identities and design agendas.
•Be responsible for the content, quality, and accuracy of assigned book projects, collaborating with Senior Editor on key approval checkpoints, which include proposals, design, manuscript, layouts, and covers.
•Assist with additional department-related assignments as needed.
Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in journalism, interior design, and/or food-related field; experience in publishing industry a plus. Three years related work experience required; more experience a plus.
