DESCRIPTION: Senior level position that will strategize, monitor, and manage the operations of all Oxmoor House editorial departments, sharing in overall editorial management with the Editorial Director, Creative Director, Senior Editors, Test Kitchen Director, and Director of Photography and collaborating strategically with Production Department.

PRIMARY DUTIES:
• Managing editor for OH book editors, project editors, designers, test kitchen and photo teams as well as the freelancers who work on OH books, including trade, proprietary, direct mail, epublishing, and outside house brand books, such as with Sunset and Weber.
• Direct reporting manager for project editors as well as editorial-related freelancers such as copy editors, proofreaders, indexers, and interns (indirect management).
• Managing Editor will create, track, and manage multiseasonal editorial schedules, deadlines, and editorial workflow processes to ensure that books ship on time, workload is evenly and reasonably distributed among staff, and staff work efficiently and effectively for maximum quality, accuracy, and time and cost management.
• Responsible for defining and managing copy editing processes and accuracy of OH publications.
• Create and manage OH book budgets and i-temp budgets, engaging with Finance as well as Creative Director, Brand Managers, Senior Editors, TK Director, and Director of Photography as needed.
• Responsible for overseeing department contracts, collaborating with other managers as need to ensure contracts clarify and maximize job responsibility and that contracts are accurate and timely.
• Plan, coordinate invitations to, develop agenda for, participate in, and recap departmental pub planning (proposals and launches), catalog generation, and design meetings.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
• Serve as liaison with Retail Marketing group and Direct Mail group to effectively promote Oxmoor titles through catalogs and other marketing materials. Review and approve OH catalogs and other marketing material, and all book covers, jackets, and copyright pages.
• Help staff identify and implement new technology and workflow processes as needed; represent OH on corporate technology committees and oversee editorial IT and archive needs. Annually benchmark processes against other similar book publishers.
• Collaborate on color and printing matters as needed.
• Coordinate content exchanges and approvals with other Time Inc. titles.
• Coordinate with SPC brands, off-site Time Inc. brands, such as Sunset, Health, and This Old House, and licensed brands, such as GBP, WW, and FIFI, to efficiently manage editorial workflow through Edit, TK, Photo, Design, Copy, and Production as needed.
• Responsible for assigning ISBNs, ISSNs, and Library of Congress Numbers for all Oxmoor House and Sunset books.
• Other duties as needed.

REQUIREMENTS:
• A BS or higher in journalism, communications or related field and at least five years of managerial publishing experience is required.
• Copyediting, Macintosh and InDesign proficiency is required.
• Must possess strong initiative, strong organizational, problem-solving, communication, and management skills, and be a team player.
