Harlequin is seeking an Acquisitions Editor to join Harlequin Kimani’s editorial team. The position provides an excellent opportunity for a qualified editor to contribute to a growing program. S/he must have a solid track record in publishing, and is responsible for soliciting and reviewing submissions, author acquisition, and management and development of a diverse author base. The primary purpose is to ensure the ongoing and timely supply of high quality, saleable titles for a targeted readership. In addition, responsibilities include reviewing, editing and approving copy and working with Art & Marketing on creating effective packaging. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to;

Author Base Management:
•Establishes and maintains relationships and manages career of authors to elicit the highest quality of writing and storytelling and to achieve author growth strategies.
•Assessment of authors’ strengths and providing editorial direction to individual authors to enable them to capitalize on these strengths.
•Evaluation of proposals and requests for revisions to meet the demands of the publishing schedule.

Works with Respective Author Base and AuthorAcquisition/Development:
•Acquires manuscripts with the correct editorial fit for the publishing strategy for the line.
•Contributes to sustaining and increasing inventory.
•Acquires and develops key authors with a focus on acquiring new talent for Harlequin Kimani.
•Contributes to talent plans, author reviews and identification of break out authors.

Editorial Functions:
•Reading and evaluating proposals.
•Providing revisions to author and line editing.
•Overseeing copy editing and author approval/alterations.

Qualifications, Skills and Competencies:
•Undergraduate Degree.
•5+ years progressive experience in publishing, including acquiring and editing.
•Strong self-motivation with the discipline to work remote (if applicable).
•Able to cope and perform under pressure.
•Strong communication (listening, writing and speaking) skills.
•Commitment to the quality of the product.
•Ability to adapt to different business situations.
•Ability to manage execution, decisiveness, and think outside the box.
•Strong planning, prioritizing and organizational skills.
•Ability to establish and build relationships.
