Our Los Alamitos, CA office is currently seeking qualified candidates for a Staff Editor:

RESPONSIBILITIES:

•Produces tight line edits of articles and department copy, checking for grammatical correctness, clarity, organization, and conformance with editorial or Web style; exhibits skill in article-level structures that highlight key points and create a logical flow of ideas.
•Displays excellent proofreading skill; has a familiarity with technology-related content and can handle occasional English as a second language (ESL) issues.
•Interacts with authors as required to negotiate changes.
•May recruit or flag opportunities for additional content for Web extra materials or multimedia presentation.
•May serve as issue editor, developing detailed production schedules; assigning responsibilities to other staff, freelance editors, and production artists; coordinating as necessary with vendors and other departments to meet schedule requirements; tracking production; and preparing paperwork for the printer.
•Participates in design decisions in coordination with the production and management teams.
•Assists with print production, including preparing and sending files to printer; may supervise print production, giving feedback to editors, approving page layouts, preparing the press imposition, and interacting with vendors (including the printer) on problems and processes.
•May update a magazine Web site and suggest, contribute, and acquire content for the Web.

QUALIFICATIONS:

•A BA/BS degree is required.
•We require at least three years of editorial experience and strong language and organizational skills.
•The candidate must also possess strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with volunteers and vendors to enforce appropriate quality levels in editorial products; this might include working with authors and other volunteers who have ESL challenges.
•The candidate must be able to edit, summarize, and rewrite technical prose without impairing technical content.
•Knowledge of computer industry and terminology desirable.
•The candidate must be able to handle multiple projects and be detail-oriented.
•The candidate must be a technologically savvy knowledge worker who seeks out technology solutions to business challenges.
•We require a strong facility with off-the-shelf word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, e-mail and database packages.
•Experience in layout, design, and production a plus.
